The Spring Traps Approval (Variation) Order 1988
Title and commencement1.
This Order may be cited as the Spring Traps Approval (Variation) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st January 1989.

SCHEDULE
“Springer No. 4 Multi-purpose (Heavy Duty) manufactured by or under the authority of AB Country Products Ltd., Troy Industrial Estate, Jill Lane, Sambourne, Near Ashwood Bank, Redditch, Worcestershire.
The trap shall be used only—
- (a)
for the purpose of killing or taking grey squirrels or stoats, weasels, rats, mice or other small ground vermin, and set in natural tunnels or in artificial tunnels constructed for the purpose; or
- (b)
for the purpose of killing or taking rats or mice and set in the open on their runs.
Springer No. 6 Multi-purpose manufactured by or under the authority of AB Country Products Ltd., Troy Industrial Estate, Jill Lane, Sambourne, Near Ashwood Bank, Redditch, Worcestershire.
The trap shall be used only—
- (a)
for the purpose of killing or taking rabbits and set in rabbit holes; or
- (b)
for the purpose of killing or taking grey squirrels, mink, stoats, weasels, rats, mice or other small ground vermin, and set in natural tunnels or in artificial tunnels constructed for the purpose.”
In witness whereof the Official Seal of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is hereunto affixed on 30th November 1988.
By virtue of section 8 of the Pests Act 1954 it is an offence to use in England and Wales for the purposes of killing or taking animals a spring trap other than one approved by an Order of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State for Wales.
This Order adds the Springer No. 4 Multi-purpose (Heavy Duty) and the Springer No. 6 Multi-purpose to those already approved in the Spring Traps Approval Order 1975 and specifies the animals for which and the circumstances in which each may be used.
