By the Lords of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council

Whereas in pursuance of paragraphs 1 and 5 of Schedule 4 to the Medical Act 19831 the General Medical Council, on 3rd November 1988, made the General Medical Council Preliminary Proceedings Committee and Professional Conduct Committee (Procedure) Rules 1988 after consulting with such bodies of persons representing medical practitioners as appeared to the General Medical Council to be requisite, in accordance with paragraph 1(4) of that Schedule2:

And whereas by the General Medical Council Preliminary Proceedings Committee and Professional Conduct Committee (Procedure) Rules Order of Council 19883 made on 21st December 1988 the Lords of the Privy Council, in pursuance of sub-paragraph (5) of the said paragraph (1), approved the said Rules as set out in the Appendix to that Order:

And whereas Their Lordships' approval given in the aforesaid Order of 21st December 1988 did not extend to the paragraph (2) of Rule 4 of the Rules duly made by the General Medical Council on 3rd November 1988, after such consultation as aforesaid, and set out in the Appendix to this Order:

Now, therefore, Their Lordships, in further exercise of their powers under the said sub-paragraph (5) of paragraph 1 of Schedule 4 to the said Act, are pleased to approve that paragraph.
