By the Lords of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council

Whereas in pursuance of section 25(1)(e) of the Opticians Act 19581 the General Optical Council have made the Contact Lens (Specification) Rules 1989 as set out in the Schedule to this Order:

And Whereas by subsection (5) of the said section such Rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council:

Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said Rules into consideration, are hereby pleased to approve the same.

This Order may be cited as the General Optical Council Contact Lens (Specification) Rules Order of Council 1989, and shall come into force on 1st June 1989.

SCHEDULETHE CONTACT LENS (SPECIFICATION) RULES 1989

The General Optical Council in exercise of their powers under section 25(1)(e) of the Opticians Act, 1958, hereby make the following rules:–

Citation and commencement1

These Rules may be cited as the Contact Lens (Specification) Rules 1989, and shall come into force on the 1st day of June 1989.

Duty to provide specification2

An optician who fits a person with a contact lens shall on completing the fitting give to him a written statement of the particulars necessary to enable the lens to be replicated.

The Rules approved by this Order require opticians on completing the fitting of a contact lens to supply the recipient with written details of the lens which will enable it to be replicated.
