The British Gas Corporation (Dissolution) Order 1990

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 57(2) of the Gas Act 1986(1)and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after consulting the British Gas Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “the Corporation”) and its successor company, British Gas public imited company, and being satisfied that nothing further remains to be done by the Corporation under Schedule 8 to the said Act, hereby makes the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the British Gas Corporation (Dissolution) Order 1990.

2.  The Corporation shall be dissolved on 28th February 1990.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order dissolves the British Gas Corporation. The Corporation’s property, rights and liabilities were transferred to British Gas p.l.c. on 24th August 1986 under section 49 of the Gas Act 1986. Section 57 of that Act provided for the Corporation to continue in existence after the transfer dat in order to carry out certain duties specified in Schedule 8 to the Act (in particular a duty to secure that the vesting of any foreign property, rights and liabilities in British Gas p.l.c. was effective under the relevant foreign law); those duties have been fulfilled.
