Citation, interpretation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) (Miscellaneous Changes) Order 1990.

(2) In this Order—

“the 1983 Order” means the Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) Order 1983((1));

“the 1987 Order” means the Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) (Miscellaneous Changes) Order 1987((2));

“the 1988 Order” means the Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) (Miscellaneous Changes) Order 1988((3));

“electoral area” in relation to a region or islands area means an electoral division and in relation to a district, means a ward within the meaning of section 5 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973((4));

“local government area” means a region, islands area or district.

(3) Subject to section 4(6) of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986, this Order shall come into force forthwith.

Cunninghame North, Eastwood and Glasgow Cathcart

2.  For the county constituencies of Cunninghame North and Eastwood as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983) and for the burgh constituency of Glasgow Cathcart as constituted by the 1988 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 24th June 1988), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part I of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the Renfrew and Cunninghame Districts (Whitehouse) Boundaries Amendment Order 1988((5)), the City of Glasgow and Eastwood Districts (Muirend Road/Netherlee Road) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989((6)), and the Renfrew and Cunninghame Districts (Caldwell House Estate) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989((7)).

East Kilbride and Glasgow Rutherglen

3.   For the county constituency of East Kilbride as constituted by the Schedule to the 1988 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 24th June 1988), and for the burgh constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part II of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the City of Glasgow and East Kilbride Districts (Mid Lettrick Farm) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989((8)).

Glasgow Springburn and Strathkelvin and Bearsden

4.   For the burgh constituency of Glasgow Springburn as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983), and for the county constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden as constituted by the Schedule to the 1988 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 24th June 1988), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part III of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the City of Glasgow and Strathkelvin Districts (Colston Road/Auchinairn Road) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989((9)).

Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber and Moray

5.   For the county constituencies of Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber and Moray as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part IV of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the Grampian and Highland Regions and Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey Districts (Dava/Aitnoch Farm) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989(10)).

Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale, Midlothian, East Lothian and Edinburgh East

6.   For the country constituency of Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983) and for the county constituencies of Midlothian and East Lothian and the burgh constituency of Edinburgh East as constituted by the Schedule to the 1988 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 24th June 1988), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part V of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the Lothian and Borders Regions and Midlothian and Ettrick and Lauderdale Districts (Brothershiels) Boundaries Amendment Order 1989((11)), the Borders and Lothian Regions and Tweeddale and Midlothian Districts (Carlops) Boundaries Amendment Order 1990((12)), and the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian Districts (Whitehill Mains) Boundaries Amendment Order 1990((13)).

North East Fife, North Tayside, Perth and Kinross and Stirling

7.   For the county constituencies of North East Fife and Perth and Kinross as constituted by the Schedule to the 1988 Order (and described by reference to the local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 24th June 1988), for the county constituency of North Tayside as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983) and for the county constituency of Stirling as constituted by the Schedule to the 1987 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 29th December 1986), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part VI of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the Fife and Tayside Regions and North East Fife and Perth and Kinross Districts (Butterwell/Burnside) Boundaries Amendment Order 1990((14)), and the Central and Tayside Regions and Stirling and Perth and Kinross Districts (Loch Earn/Loch Tay) Boundaries Amendment Order 1990((15)).

Motherwell North and Linlithgow

8.   For the burgh constituency of Motherwell North and county constituency of Linlithgow as constituted by the Schedule to the 1983 Order (and described by reference to local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 18th February 1983), there shall be substituted the constituencies which are named in column (1) of Part VII of the Schedule to this Order and comprise the areas set out opposite in column (2), which areas are local government areas and electoral areas as they existed on 5th July 1990 (and accordingly as altered by the Lothian and Strathclyde Regions and West Lothian and Motherwell Districts (Westcraigs) Boundaries Amendment Order 1990((16)).

Re-arrangement or adaptation of registers

9.   The electoral registration officer for each of the constituencies referred to in articles 2-8 above shall make such re-arrangement or adaptation of the registers of parliamentary electors as may be necessary to give effect to this Order.
