2.—(1) The Dental Auxiliaries Regulations 1986(1) shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.
(2) In regulation 6 (fees prescribed by the General Dental Council) for “£6.00” there shall be substituted “£10.00”.
(3) In regulation 23 (dental hygienists)—
(a)in paragraph (1) after the words “of any other kind” there shall be added the words “, except that the scaling of teeth under sub-paragraph (b) above may be carried out by a dental hygienist under local infiltration analgesia administered by the dental hygienist or under any local or regional block analgesia administered by a registered dentist”;
(b)in paragraph (2) after the words “has indicated” there shall be inserted the words “in writing”; and
(c)in paragraph (3) for the words from “Except” to “dental work” there shall be substituted the words “A dental hygienist shall administer local infiltration analgesia”.
