Whereas a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament :
Now therefore, the Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 89(5) of the Courts and Legal Services Act 19901, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement1
This Order may be cited as the Registered Foreign Lawyers Order 1991 and shall come into force on 1st January 1992.
Solicitors Act 19742
Section 85 of the Solicitors Act 19742 shall have effect as if the references in that section to a solicitor included references to a person who is a registered foreign lawyer practising as a member of a multi-national partnership.
Banking Act 1987 (Exempt Transactions) Regulations 19883
Regulation 8 of the Banking Act 1987 (Exempt Transactions) Regulations 19883 shall have effect as if the reference in paragraph (1) of that regulation to a practising solicitor included, so far as it relates to a solicitor who is qualified to act as such under section 1 of the Solicitors Act 1974, a reference to a registered foreign lawyer in the course of providing professional services as a member of a multi-national partnership.
