The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Instrument in exercise of his powers conferred by Section 106 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:—

1.  The City of Manchester (Bradford Mill Bridge) Scheme 1992 is hereby confirmed.

2.  The said Scheme as confirmed (hereinafter referred to as “the scheme”) is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the scheme with its accompanying plans are deposited at the offices of the Department of Transport, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY and at the offices of Manchester City Council, Chief Executives Department, PO Box 532, Town Hall, Manchester M60 2LA.

3.  The Scheme will become operative on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  This Instrument may be cited as the City of Manchester (Bradford Mill Bridge) Scheme 1992 Confirmation Instrument 1992.

THE SCHEDULECITY OF MANCHESTER (BRADFORD MILL BRIDGE) SCHEME 1992

The Council of the City of Manchester (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) make this Scheme in exercise of their powers under Section 106 of the Highways Act 1980 and all other enabling powers:—

1.  The Council are authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the Ashton Canal the bridge specified in the Schedule to this Scheme as part of the highway which they are proposing to construct between Gibbon Street and Stuart Street in the City of Manchester.

2.  This Scheme may be cited as the City of Manchester (Bradford Mill Bridge) Scheme 1992.

SCHEDULEWITH KEY PLAN (PLAN "A'), SITE PLANS (PLANS "B' AND "C') AND ELEVATION (PLAN "D') ATTACHEDPLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE BRIDGE CROSSING THE ASHTON CANAL AT STUART STREET LINK ROAD (BETWEEN STUART STREET AND GIBBON STREET)SPECIFICATIONPOINTS OF COMMENCEMENT AND TERMINATION (see Plan "C')

From a point south-west of the canal whose co-ordinates are 387246.55E, 398700.37N to a point north-east of the canal whose co-ordinates are 387256.75E, 398715.04N.

  • CONSTRUCTION

    Precast prestressed concrete beams with insitu reinforced concrete slab deck on reinforced concrete abutments faced with brickwork.

  • SPAN

    17.80 metres clear square span (17.869 metres skew span).

  • WIDTH

    7.3 metres single carriageway with 2 No. 3.0 metre footways (13.3 metres overall width).

  • HEADROOM

    3.28 metres minimum headroom over the centre 5 metre width of the canal above the nominal water level of 63.1 metres A.O.D. and 2.67 metres minimum headroom over the canal towpath.

  • WATERWAY

    The existing canal, walls and towpath will be unaltered.

Given under the Common Seal of the Council this 7th day of February 1992.
