1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Designation of Approval Marks) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 1st January 1993.

2.  The Motor Vehicles (Designation of Approval Marks) Regulations 1979(1) shall be further amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.

3.  In Schedule 4, after item 30 there shall be inserted the items specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

4.—(1) Schedule 5 shall be amended as follows.

(2) In paragraph 2, there shall be inserted at the beginning the words “Subject to paragraph 15 below” and there shall be added at the end the sentence—

(3) After paragraph 12 there shall be inserted the following paragraphs—

13.  The Roman numeral shown outside and above the rectangle in the marking relating to item 31 in Schedule 4 shall be—

(a)II, if the windscreen is made of ordinary laminated glass;

(b)III, if the windscreen is made of treated laminated glass which is not coated; or

(c)IV, if the windscreen is made of plastic glass;

14.  In the marking relating to item 32 in Schedule 4, there shall be added above the rectangle—

(a)the Roman numeral V, if the window has a regular light transmittance of less than 70%;

(b)the Roman numeral VI, if the window is a double-glazed unit; or

(c)the Roman numerals V and VI separated by a hyphen, if the window is a double-glazed unit with a regular light transmittance of less than 70%.

15.  Paragraph 2 above shall not apply to the marking shown in item 33, but the number shown outside and below the rectangle in the marking relating to that item shall be varied, where appropriate, so as to be the number of the relevant approval document preceded by—

(a)“00”, if approval has been granted on the basis of the tyres to which the approval applies being commercial vehicle tyres as defined in the Community Instrument referred to in column (3) in relation to that item;

(b)“02”, if approval has been granted on the basis of the tyres to which the approval applies being passenger car tyres as defined in that Community Instrument;

The number shall be close to and outside the rectangle but may be above or below or to the left or to the right of it but shall be aligned so as to be read in the same direction as the number inside the rectangle.
