ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
The Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes Order 1993

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 153(4) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes Order 1993 and shall come into force on 12th May 1993.
Variation of section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
2. The following is hereby added to section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 after paragraph (p)(2):
“(q)the grant programme known as the Environmental Action Fund;
(r)the programmes or schemes of the United Nations Habitat and Human Settlements Foundation;
(s)the programmes or schemes of the International Federation for Housing and Planning so far as they relate to the protection, improvement or better understanding of the environment;
(t)the programmes or schemes of the INTA.AIVN-International Urban Development Association so far as they relate to the protection, improvement or better understanding of the environment;
(u)the scheme known as the Darwin Initiative for the Survival of Species that provides support for the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources and habitats and for the furtherance of the aims of the Convention on Biological Diversity.”.

This Order varies section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to enable the Secretary of State, with the consent of the Treasury, to give financial assistance to, or for the purposes of, further programmes and schemes.
