These Regulations amend Schedule 1 to the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1992. The 1992 Regulations implemented Council Directive 92/53/EEC which relates to the type approval of motor vehicles and their trailers.
These Regulations are made in consequence of Council Directives 92/97 EEC and92/114/EEC.
Council Directive 92/97/EEC further amends Council Directive 70/157/EEC which relates to the permissible sound level and exhaust systems of motor vehicles. Council Directive 92/114/EEC relates to the external projections forward of the cab’s rear position panel of motor vehicles of category N.
The item numbers in the Schedule as amended reflect the item numbers in Annex IV to Council Directive 92/53 EEC. At present no Directives have been issued in connection with the subject matter of items 48 or 49 of Annex IV to Directive 70/156/EEC as amended by Directives 87/403/EEC and 92/53/EEC. Consequently there are no entries in items 48 and 49 of the Schedule.
Copies of the EC Directives which are relevant to these Regulations can be obtained from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office. The details of the Directives are set out below.
