The Designation of Institutions of Higher Education (Scotland) Amendment Order 1993
Citation and commencement1.
This Order may be cited as The Designation of Institutions of Higher Education (Scotland) Amendment Order 1993 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993.
Amendment of the principal Order2.
(a)
the present text shall be renumbered as paragraph (1) of the Article;
(b)
in the list of institutions in paragraph (1) the following names shall be deleted:—
Glasgow Polytechnic
Napier Polytechnic of Edinburgh
Paisley College of Technology
The Queen’s College, Glasgow
The Robert Gordon Institute of Technology;
(c)
in that list (which is in alphabetical order) the following names shall be inserted at the appropriate places:—
Glasgow Caledonian University
Napier University
The Robert Gordon University
University of Paisley; and
(d)
“(2)
The designation of an institution by paragraph (1) of this Article shallremain in effect notwithstanding any change of name of the institution sodesignated.”.

This Order amends The Designation of Institutions of Higher Education (Scotland) Order 1992 which designates certain institutions as eligible to receive support from funds administered by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council. The list of institutions in the Order is amended to take account of (1) the changes of name of Napier Polytechnic of Edinburgh, Paisley College of Technology and The Robert Gordon Institute of Technology to Napier University, University of Paisley and The Robert Gordon University respectively, and (2) the merger of Glasgow Polytechnic and The Queen’s College, Glasgow, to form a new institution, Glasgow Caledonian University. Provision is added to ensure that a designated institution shall continue to be designated notwithstanding any change of name.
