The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred by section 7(1A) of the National Health Service Act 1977(1) hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the National Health Service Act 1977 (Composition of Medical Practices Committee) Modification Order 1993 and shall come into force on 21st April 1993.

Modification of section 7(1)(b) of the National Health Service Act 1977

2.  In section 7(1) of the National Health Service Act 1977 (Composition of Medical Practices Committee) paragraph (b) shall have effect subject to the following modifications—

(a)for “six” there shall be substituted “five” in both places where it occurs; and

(b)for “five” there shall be substituted “four”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order modifies section 7(1)(b) of the National Health Service Act 1977, which sets out the composition of the Medical Practices Committee. The Committee exercises functions under Part II of that Act in connection with the distribution of registered medical practitioners providing general medical services pursuant to that Part.This Order alters from six to five the number of members of the Committee (other than the Chairman) who are to be registered medical practitioners, and from five to four the number of those members who are to be actively engaged in medical practice.
