The Lord Chancellor and, in relation to proceedings in Scotland, the Lord Advocate, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 12(5) of, and paragraph 4 of Schedule 3 to, the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979(1), hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (Legal Assessors) (Amendment) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993.
2. Article 1(2) of the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (Legal Assessors) Order 1983(2) shall be amended by adding the words “, except the Preliminary Proceedings Committee,” after the words “means any committee”.

This Order amends the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (Legal Assessors) Order 1983 in consequence of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Professional Conduct) Rules 1993 which provide for the creation of a Preliminary Proceedings Committee which may sit without a legal assessor being present.
