MERCHANT SHIPPING

The Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1994

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 10(4) of the Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994(1), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1994.

2.  The provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994 specified in the first column of Schedule 1 to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in the second column of that Schedule) shall come into force on 28th July 1994.

3.  The provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994 specified in the first column of Schedule 2 to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in the second column of that Schedule) shall come into force on 1st October 1994.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Salvage and Pollution) Act 1994 as follows—

(a)on 28th July 1994, amendments to section 20 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1994 (powers of implementation of international agreements relating to marine pollution), and ancillary provisions; and

(b)on 1st October 1994, amendments to the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) Act 1971 and the Merchant Shipping Act 1974, in connection with liability and compensation for oil pollution, and provisions concerning the functions of the Secretary of State in relation to oil pollution.
