The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 2(9) and 15(5) of the Local Government Act 1988(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Exemption) (South Norfolk District Council) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 10th January 1995.

Exemption of maintenance of ground

2.  Maintenance of ground by the South Norfolk District Council shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as it is undertaken at the following parishes–

  • Alpington, Ashwellthorpe, Aslacton, Barford, Barnham Broom, Bawburgh, Bracon Ash, Bramerton, Bressingham, Bunwell, Burston, Caistor St Edmunds, Carleton Rode, Claxton, Costessey, Cringleford, Deopham, Diss, Easton, Flordon, Forncett, Framingham Earl, Gissing, Great Melton, Great Moulton, Hempnall, Hethersett, Hingham, Little Melton, Long Stratton, Kimberley, Kirby Bedon, Ketteringham, Morley, Morning Thorpe, Mulbarton, Newton Flotman, Poringland, Rockland St Mary, Roydon, Saxlingham Nethergate, Shelfanger, Shotesham, Stoke Holy Cross, Surlingham, Swainsthorpe, Swardeston, Tacolneston, Tasburgh, Tharston, Tibenham, Trowse with Newton, Wacton, Wicklewood, Winfarthing, Wreningham, Wymondham and Yelverton

before 31st July 1995.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Under Part I of the Local Government Act 1988 (competition), work falling within certain defined activities may be carried out by local authorities only if particular conditions are fulfilled.

This Order exempts from the requirements of Part I maintenance of ground by the South Norfolk District Council so long as it is undertaken in certain areas named in the Order before 31st July 1995.
