These Regulations amend the Education (Middle Schools) Regulations 1980 in consequence of the amendment to section 1(1) of the Education Act 1964 made by section 307 of the Education Act 1993 (c. 35) and paragraph 38 of Schedule 19 thereto. The effect of that amendment is that section 1(1) of the 1964 Act now extends to proposals with respect to a grant-maintained school or proposed grant-maintained school submitted to the Secretary of State under sections 48, 49, 96 or 97 of the Education Act 1993 and proposals with respect to a county school published under section 272 of that Act.
