This Order declares the Europe Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Slovak Republic of the other part, signed on 4 October 1993, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement establishes the Association with the aims of providing an appropriate framework for political dialogue, for promoting the expansion of trade and economic relations, providing a basis for the Community’s financial and technical assistance to the Slovak Republic, promoting cultural co-operation and providing an appropriate framework for the Slovak Republic’s gradual integration into the Community. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play, in relation to it, the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provides for the implementation of treaties so specified.
