(This note is not part of the Order)
The Redundant Churches Fund has as its object the preservation, in the interests of the nation and the Church of England, of churches and parts of churches of historic and archaeological interest or architectural quality, together with their contents, which are vested in the Fund by Part III of the Pastoral Measure 1983 (1983 No.1).
This Order specifies the period 1st April 1994 to 31st March 1997 for the purposes of section 1 of the Redundant Churches and other Religious Buildings Act 1969 (“the Act”), thus enabling the Secretary of State with the approval of the Treasury to make grants to the Redundant Churches Fund during that period of such amounts, payable at such times and subject to such conditions, if any, as he may from time to time determine. The Order specifies the sum of £7,200,000 as the maximum aggregate amount of the grants that may be paid over that period.
By virtue of section 13 of the Pastoral (Amendment) Measure 1994 (1994 No. 1), the body called the Redundant Churches Fund will, from a date to be appointed, be called the Churches Conservation Trust and references to the Redundant Churches Fund in the Act will be construed as references to the Churches Conservation Trust.
