These Regulations revoke and replace the Merchant Shipping (Fees) Regulations 1991 and the subsequent amendments.
The Regulations prescribe changes in some of the rates charged, and introduce new fees. In particular—
(i)Fees for tonnage measurement have been increased by about 3% and the bottom range of the scale has been removed, and fees have been made maximum fees (Schedule, Part II).
(ii)Radio survey fees have been increased by about 4% (Schedule, Part I, paragraph 2).
(iii)Fees have been set for Certificates of Equivalent Competency (introduced by the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Deck and Marine Engineer Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 1995 and the Fishing Vessels (Certification of Deck and Marine Engineer Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 1995 and the Fishing Vessels (Certification of Deck Officers and Engineer Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 1995) (Schedule, Part V).
(iv)Fees are introduced in connection with the administration of marine examinations (Schedule, Part IV, Sections A, 3 and 4, and Section B, 6 and 7).
