Citation, commencement and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Modern Foreign Languages) Order 1995 and, subject to paragraph (2) below, shall come into force on 1st August 1995.

The provisions of this Order in so far as they relate to the fourth key stage shall come into force—
a
on 1st August 1996 in respect of pupils in the first year of that key stage; and
b
on 1st August 1997 in respect of all other pupils in that key stage.

In this Order—
“the Document” means the Document published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in January 1995 entitled “Modern Foreign Languages in the National Curriculum”3; and
references to the third and fourth key stages shall be construed in accordance with section 3(3) to (6) of the Education Reform Act 19884.
