The Housing Benefit (Permitted Totals) (Amendment) Order 1996

Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of powers conferred on him by sections 134(12) and 189(1) and (3) to (6) of the Social Security Administration Act 19921 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after consultation with organisations appearing to him to be representative of the authorities concerned2, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the Housing Benefit (Permitted Totals) (Amendment) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 7th October 1996.

Amendment of article 4 of The Housing Benefit (Permitted Totals) Order 19962

In article 4 of the Housing Benefit (Permitted Totals) Order 19963 (increase above maximum rent) in paragraph (1) for “100.9%” there shall be substituted “101.08%”.

This Order amends the Housing Benefit (Permitted Totals) Order 1996 (S.I.1996/677). It increases the total amount which local authorities may in the year commencing 1st April 1996 pay by way of housing benefit in the exercise of their discretion under regulation 61(3) of the Housing Benefit (General) Regulations 1987 (S.I.1987/1971).

This Order does not impose a charge on business.
