Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 8th January 1997.

Interpretation

2.  In these Regulations, “the 1988 Regulations” mean the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) Regulations 1988(1) as they continue to apply by virtue of regulation 4 of the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) (Scheme Termination) Regulations 1994(2).

Amendment to the 1988 Regulations

3.  Paragraph (1)(a) of Article 2 of Schedule 1 to the 1988 Regulations shall be amended by inserting after the words “transferred employee” the words “on or before 31st March 1996”.

Application of the Scheme

4.  The Scheme set out in the Schedule to these Regulations (hereinafter referred to as “the Supplemental Scheme”) shall apply to those classes of persons prescribed therein who, but for the provisions of regulation 3 of these Regulations, would have been eligible for payments under the Scheme set out in Schedule 1 to the 1988 Regulations.
