This Order may be cited as the Kent (Coroners' Districts) (Amendment) Order 1996 and shall be read as one with the Kent (Coroners' Districts) Order 19743.

Commencement and application2

This Order shall come into force on 15th April 1996.

This Order shall not have effect in relation to any inquest begun before the day on which it comes into force or to any post-morten examination which, before that day, a coroner has directed or requested a medical practitioner to make.

Alteration of Kent coroners' districts3

The existing North Kent coroner’s district of the county of Kent shall be abolished.

The existing West Kent coroner’s district, Maidstone coroner’s district and Canterbury and Dover coroner’s district shall be altered by transferring the areas specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order from the coroners' districts named in column 2 of the Schedule to the coroners' districts named in column 3 of the Schedule.

Renaming of Kent coroners' districts4

The existing West Kent coroner’s district shall be renamed as the North West Kent coroner’s district.

The existing Maidstone coroner’s district shall be renamed as the Mid Kent and Medway coroner’s district.

The existing Canterbury and Dover coroner’s district shall be renamed as the East Kent coroner’s district.
