The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 18(1) and 24(2) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st October 1997.
(2) This Order does not extend to Northern Ireland.
2. In section 16(3) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(2) (conditions on which the provision of amusements is permitted at certain commercial entertainments), paragraph (b) shall have effect as if, for the sum specified in that paragraph, there were substituted the sum of £50.
3. The Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1995(3) and the Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1995(4) are hereby revoked.

This Order (which extends to England and Wales and Scotland) increases from £30 to £50 the maximum amount permitted to be taken by way of the sale of chances in any one determination of winners in amusements provided at certain fairs and other commercial entertainments under section 16 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976.
As to the sum currently specified in section 16(3)(b), see S.I. 1995/928 as respects England and Wales and S.I. 1995/1021 (S. 84) as respects Scotland.
