This Order may be cited as the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1997.
Commencement of rural settlement provisions in England and Wales2.
(1)
Section 1 of the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 (which introduces Schedule 1) shall come into force on the day following the making of this Order.
(2)
Notwithstanding paragraph (1) above, no rural settlement list shall have effect for a financial year before that beginning on 1st April 1998.

This Order brings into force certain provisions of the Local Government and Rating Act 1997.
Section 1 and Schedule 1, which provide for mandatory and discretionary relief from non-domestic rates for certain hereditaments in rural settlements in England and Wales, are brought into force on 19th November 1997 so that the relief will become available in the financial year beginning on 1st April 1998.
S.I. 1997/1097 (c. 40) provided for the commencement of the undernoted provisions on the dates mentioned:
