The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 35 of the Antarctic Act 1994(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Antarctic Act 1994 (Commencement) (No. 3) Order 1997.
2. Sections 3 and 4 of the Antarctic Act 1994 shall come into force on 14th January 1998.

This Order brings into force on 14th January 1998 sections 3 and 4 of the Antarctic Act 1994. Section 3 requires permits for Antarctic expeditions organised in or departing from the United Kingdom. Section 4 requires permits for manned British stations in Antarctica.
The Act has been progressively brought into force by commencement orders made in 1995 (S.I. No. 2748), 1996 (S.I. No. 2666) and 1997 (S.I. Nos. 1411 and 2298). As from 14th January 1998 the whole Act will be in force.
