MAGISTRATES' COURTS;PROCEDURE

These Rules provide for the practice and procedure to be followed in magistrates' courts in relation to—proceedings to deal with a contempt of court under section 18 of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (“the 1996 Act”);applications under sections 17(4) and (6)(b) and 18(6) of the 1996 Act; andorders under sections 17(4) and 18(4) and (7) of the 1996 Act.

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 144, as extended by section 145, of the Magistrates' Courts Act 19801 and section 19 of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 19962, and after consultation with the Rule Committee appointed under the said section 144, hereby makes the following Rules:
