In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 145(3) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:—
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1998.
(2) In this Order “the Act” means the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
2. The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 8th August 1998—
sections 10–12
Schedule 1.
3. The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 1st September 1998—
section 13
section 104(1) to (3) and (5) to (7).

This Order brings certain provisions of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 into force on 8th August and 1st September 1998. The provisions brought into force are provisions relating to Education Action Zones and enabling powers relating to the designation of grammar schools.
