The Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) (Amendment) Order 1998
Title and commencement1.
This Order may be cited as the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) (Amendment) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 4th January 1999.

(a)
““exposed animal” means a bovine animal, other than an offspring animal, which has been exposed to the infection of the disease;”; and
(b)
““offspring animal” means a bovine animal born on or after 1st August 1996 in the United Kingdom to a dam which–
- (a)
was affected or suspected of being affected with the disease when it gave birth to the animal; or
- (b)
has subsequently become affected or suspected of being affected with the disease;”.

This Order, which extends to Great Britain, amends the BSE (No. 2) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/3183, as amended by S.I. 1997/2387) as a consequence of the BSE Offspring Slaughter Regulations 1998. The definition of “exposed animal” is amended to exclude any offspring animal, defined as a bovine animal born on or after 1st August 1996 in the United Kingdom to a dam which was affected or suspected of being affected with BSE when it gave birth to the animal or which has subsequently become affected or suspected of being affected with BSE.
A Regulatory Impact Assessment for this Order is not required.
