The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 1(5) and (6), 190(1) and 191(1) of the Local Government and Housing Act 19891, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation, commencement and application1

These Regulations may be cited as the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 7th July 1999.

The amendments made by Regulation 2 below shall apply only in respect of persons holding a politically restricted post under a local authority in Wales.
Amendment of Regulations2

The Schedule to the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 19902 is amended as follows.

In paragraph 1, after sub-paragraph (aa), insert–

the National Assembly for Wales.

After paragraph 2C3, insert–

Notwithstanding any contrary provision in his terms of appointment or his contract of employment, upon the appointee giving notice in writing to the local authority under which he holds his appointment that he wishes to resign his appointment because he intends to announce or cause, authorise or permit anyone else to announce that he is, or intends to be a candidate for election as a member of the National Assembly for Wales, his appointment shall terminate forthwith.
