The Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Appointed Day) Order 1999

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order appoints 2nd December 1999 as the day for the commencement of Parts II and III of the Northern Ireland Act 1998. Part II, which deals with the legislative powers of the Northern Ireland Assembly, and Part III, which deals with the Executive Authorities, implement, in those regards, the Belfast Agreement.

The Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Commencement No. 5) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/3209 (C. 85)) brings into force on the day appointed under this Order the following provisions of the 1998 Act:

Sections 1, 2 and 4

Sections 31 to 39, 40(1) to (9), 40(10), so far as not already in force, 41 to 48, 49(2)–(4), 50 and 51

Sections 52 to 54 and 56

Sections 57 to 67

Sections 69(3), partially, and (4), 71(1), partially, and (3) and (4) and 76 to 78

Sections 79, partially, 80, 81, 82(1) and (2), 83 to 85, 87 to 89 and 94

Sections 95(1) to (4) and (5), (partially), 99, (partially), 100(1), partially, and (2), partially
