This Order brings into force on 2nd December 1999, provisions of the Northern Ireland Act 1998. By virtue of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Appointed Day) Order 1999, that day is the appointed day under section 3 of that Act when Parts II and III of the Act, which make provision for the legislative powers and executive authorities of the Northern Ireland Assembly, are commenced. This Order brings into force other provisions of the Act in connection with the devolution of power to the Assembly.
