The Northern Ireland (Emergency and Prevention of Terrorism Provisions) (Continuance) Order 2000

This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Emergency and Prevention of Terrorism Provisions) (Continuance) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 16th June 2000.

In this Order:
(a)
“the temporary provisions of the 1996 Act” means Parts I to VII of the 1996 Act, except
(i)
section 7, Part III of Schedule I and, so far as they relate to offences which are scheduled offences by virtue of that Part, sections 3, 10 and 11, and
(ii)
sections 55 and 56,
(b)
“the 1989 Act provisions” means the provisions referred to in section 27(11) of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989, that is to say Parts III and V of that Act so far as they have effect in Northern Ireland and relate to any proscribed organisation for the purposes of section 30 of the 1996 Act or offences or orders under that section.

The temporary provisions of the 1996 Act and the 1989 Act provisions shall continue in force for a period beginning with 16th June 2000 and ending with 24th August 2000.

This Order continues in force the temporary provisions of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996 (which for these purposes include section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Terrorism and Conspiracy) Act 1998 so far as it applies to Northern Ireland) for a period beginning with 16th June 2000 and ending with 24th August 2000, when the 1996 Act would repeal itself.
This Order also continues in force for the same period the provisions referred to in section 27(11) of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989.
The 1996 and 1989 Acts will be repealed and replaced by the Terrorism Bill which is currently before Parliament.
