(This note is not part of the Order)
The Secretary of State may pay grant towards the costs of acquiring, surveying and carrying out works on land which is derelict, neglected or unsightly. Grant may also be paid to a local authority for works to prevent the actual or apprehended collapse of the surface as a result of certain mining operations.
The maximum rates at which grant is payable in the case of intermediate areas or development areas are higher than the rates which are payable elsewhere. A higher rate of grant is also payable in localities specified by order.
This Order specifies for this purpose a locality at Coley in the borough of Reading where disused chalk mines have caused actual or apprehended collapse of the land.
