(1)
The medical officer of a young offender institution shall have the care of the health, mental and physical, of the inmates of that institution.
(2)
Every request by an inmate to see the medical officer shall be recorded by the officer to whom it is made and promptly passed on to the medical officer.
(3)
The medical officer may consult a medical practitioner who is a fully registered person within the meaning of the Medical Act 1983 M1 F1who holds a licence to practise. Such a practitioner may work within the prison under the general supervision of the medical officer.
(4)
The medical officer shall consult another medical practitioner, if time permits, before performing any serious operation.
(5)
Subject to any directions given in the particular case by the Secretary of State, a registered medical practitioner selected by or on behalf of an inmate who is a party to any legal proceedings shall be afforded reasonable facilities for examining him in connection with the proceedings, and may do so out of hearing but in the sight of an officer.
