The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

WHEREAS Her Majesty deems it expedient to modify the Northern Ireland Act 1998(1) and to do so by Order in Council in pursuance of section 87(7) and (11) of that Act:

NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 87(7) and (11) of the said Act and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Modification) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 13th April 2000.

Modification of the Northern Ireland Act 1998

2.  In subsection (6) of section 87 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 at the end there shall be added the following paragraph–

(n)the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999(2) and the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999(3).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order adds the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999 (c. 30) and the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/3147 (NI 11)) to the legislation listed in section 87 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (c. 47). This legislation is subject to the provisions in that section concerning consultation and co-ordination between the Secretary of State and the Northern Ireland Department having responsibility for social security. The Department exercises that role in accordance with paragraph 4 of the Schedule to the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (c. 1).

This Order does not impose a cost on business.
