The Employment Zones (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2001

The Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 60 of the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999(1) and after agreement by the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals in respect of these Regulations should not be referred to it(2), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Commencement and Citation

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Employment Zones (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 2nd July 2001.

Amendment of the Employment Zones Regulations 2000

2.  The Schedule to the Employment Zones Regulations 2000(3) shall be amended as follows—

(a)the entries in columns 1 and 2 relating to the Employment Zone of Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent shall be omitted and the following substituted—

(i)in column 1, “Heads of the Valleys and Caerphilly”;

(ii)in column 2, “The county borough of Blaenau Gwent, the county borough of Caerphilly, the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil and the county borough of Torfaen.”;

(b)in relation to the employment zone of Doncaster, after “the metropolitan district of Rotherham” there shall be added “and the non-metropolitan district of Bassetlaw”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Schedule to the Employment Zones Regulations 2000 by—

(a)adding, to the Doncaster employment zone, the non-metropolitan district of Bassetlaw;

(b)changing the name of the Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent employment zone to the Heads of the Valleys and Caerphilly employment zone and by adding to that zone the county borough of Torfaen.

See sections 170 and 173(1) (b) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992 (c. 5); paragraph 81 of Schedule 12 to the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999 added section 60 to the enactments regulations under which must normally be referred to the Committee.
