The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 9(3) of the Employment Tribunals Act 1996(1), hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Employment Tribunals (Increase of Maximum Deposit) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 23rd February 2001.
2. For the sum specified in section 9(2)(a) of the Employment Tribunals Act 1996, there is substituted the sum of £500.

Section 9(3) of the Employment Tribunals Act 1996 gives the Secretary of State power by order to substitute for the sum specified in section 9(2)(a) of that Act such other sum as is specified in the order. The sum is the maximum amount which an employment tribunal may be authorised to require a party to proceedings to pay by way of deposit, if that party wishes to continue to participate in those proceedings following a pre-hearing review.
This Order increases the sum in section 9(2)(a) of the Employment Tribunals Act 1996 from £150 to £500.
