The Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Restoration of Devolved Government) Order 2001

Whereas the Secretary of State took steps to initiate a review under the Validation, Implementation and Review section of the Belfast Agreement, as required by section 2(1) of the Northern Ireland Act 2000(1), and has taken into account the result of that review;

And whereas the Secretary of State considers it expedient for this Order to be made without a draft thereof having been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament;

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 2(2) of the Northern Ireland Act 2000, hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Restoration of Devolved Government) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 12th August 2001.

2.  Section 1 of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 shall cease to have effect on 12th August 2001.

3.  The Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Suspension of Devolved Government) Order 2001(2) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides that section 1 of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 is to cease to have effect on 12th August 2001. Section 1, which came into force again on 11th August 2001 by virtue of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Suspension of Devolved Government) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/2884), provides for the suspension of devolved government in Northern Ireland. The effect of the Order is to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland on 12 August 2001.
