The Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2001

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by sections 34(9) and 51(4) of the Gaming Act 1968(1), hereby makes the following Order.

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1st January 2002.

(2) This Order extends to England and Wales and Scotland.

2.  Subsections (5C) and (5D) of section 34 of the Gaming Act 1968(2) (which specify the maximum amount which may be offered as a prize in respect of any one game played by means of a cash-only machine) shall have effect as if, for the references to the sum specified in those subsections (which, by virtue of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) (No. 2) Order 1998(3) had effect immediately before the coming into force of this Order as if, for those references, there were substituted references to £15) there were substituted references to the sum of £25.

3.  Article 3 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits ) (No. 2) Order 1998 is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order increases the maximum amount that may be offered as a prize in a game played on a cash-only gaming machine from £15 to £25.
