RACE RELATIONS

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (Commencement) Order 2001

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 10(2) of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000(1), hereby makes the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (Commencement) Order 2001.

(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.

2.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), sections 1 to 9 (including Schedules 1 to 3) of the Act shall come into force on 2nd April 2001.

(2) For the purpose of the imposition of a requirement or the giving of an express authorisation by a Minister of the Crown acting personally in accordance with section 19D(3) of the Race Relations Act 1976(2), section 1 of the Act shall come into force on 26th March 2001.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for the coming into force on 2nd April 2001 of sections 2 to 9 of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (“the Act”). Section 1 of the Act comes into force on 26th March 2001 for the purpose of the imposition of requirements or giving of express authorisations (as defined) by a Minister of the Crown, and for all other purposes on 2nd April 2001. Section 10 of the Act came into force on Royal Assent.
