The Radioactive Material (Road Transport) (Definition of Radioactive Material) Order 2002

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Section 1(1)(b) of the Radioactive Material (Road Transport) Act 1991 provides that, in that Act, “radioactive material” means any material having a specific activity in excess of 70 kilobecquerels per kilogram or such lesser specific activity as is specified in an Order. This Order specifies the level of activity at 0.1 kilobecquerels per kilogram, thus lowering it from 70 kilobecquerels per kilogram and widening the definition of “radioactive material” for the purposes of that Act.

A Regulatory Impact Assessment has been prepared for this Order and the associated Regulations (The Radioactive Material (Road Transport) Regulations 2002).
