This Order may be cited as the A339 Trunk Road (B4640 Swan Roundabout to West Berkshire/Hampshire County Boundary) (Detrunking) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st June 2003.

In this Order—
i
“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
ii
“the trunk road” means the A339 Trunk Road (A339).

The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies West Berkshire District Council that they will become the highway authority responsible for that length of road.

THE SCHEDULELENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD
The length of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the junction of the A339 with the B4640 known as the Swan Roundabout, south of Newbury to the A339 West Berkshire/Hampshire County Boundary at Knights Bridge, near Bishops Green including:
the A339/Bishops Green roundabout;
the A339/Main Street roundabout;
the A339/Thornton Road roundabout;
all parallel lay-bys;
all structures
and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA 10/OD/401 marked “The A339 (B4640 Swan Roundabout to West Berkshire/Hampshire County Boundary) (Detrunking) Order 2003.” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
