Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 19801 and now vested in him2, and of all powers enabling him in that behalf:

This Order may be cited as the A421 Trunk Road (Great Barford Bypass) Detrunking Order 2003 and shall come into force 19th December 2003

In this Order—

i

“classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

ii

“the new trunk roads” means the new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct referred to in article 2.(ii) of the A421 Trunk Road (Great Barford Bypass and Slip Roads) Order 2003; and

iii

“the trunk road” means the A421 Trunk Road.

The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the Bedfordshire County Council that the new trunk roads are open for traffic.

THE SCHEDULELENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between its roundabout junction with the Bedford Southern Bypass and the Black Cat roundabout junction with the A1 Trunk Road from a point on the existing A421 Trunk Road about 135 metres west of its junction with the C44 Water End Road for a distance of about 7.23 kilometres to a point on the existing A421 Trunk Road about 305 metres west of its junction with the existing A1 Trunk Road and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA 10/MP/013, marked “The A421 Trunk Road (Great Barford Bypass) Detrunking Order 2003” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Records Management Branch, Room F13, Ashdown House, Sedlescombe Road North, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
