The Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 1962 (Amendment No. 3) Order 2005

Whereas the Electoral Commission has been consulted about this Order in accordance with section 7(3) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 20001;
And whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament;
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 84(1) of the Northern Ireland Act 19982, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1.
This Order may be cited as the Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 1962 (Amendment No. 3) Order 2005 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
2.
Subsection 42(1) of the Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 19623 is amended by the substitution of “£600” for “£242” and “5p” for “4.8p”.

This Order increases the maximum expenses that can be claimed by candidates at local elections in Northern Ireland by amending the current limits in the Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 1962 (c. 14). The current limits in the Act were inserted by the Local Elections (Northern Ireland) (Amendment) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/417).
