MAGISTRATES' COURTS, ENGLAND AND WALES
The Courts Act 2003 (“the Act”) creates a new structure for magistrates' courts in England and Wales. It provides for a commission of the peace for the whole of England and Wales (section 7 of the Act) in place of the commission areas which are abolished with the repeal of the Justices'of the Peace Act 1997 (c. 25) (“the 1997 Act”) (sections 6(4) and 109(3) of, and Schedule 10 to, the Act).

Coming into force
Whereas a draft of this Instrument was laid before Parliament in accordance with section 108(2) of the Courts Act 20031 and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, the Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 109(4)(a), (5)(b) and (6) of the Courts Act 2003 and section 29 of, and paragraph 10 of Schedule 5 to, the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 20042, hereby makes the following Order:
