ROAD TRAFFIC

The Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations 2006

The Secretary of State for Transport makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 64(1), (2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1).

In accordance with section 134(2) of that Act he has consulted with such representative organisations as he thought fit.

Citation and Commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force on 21st August 2006.

Amendment of the Traffic Signs Regulations 2002

2.—(1) The Traffic Signs Regulations 2002(2) shall be amended as follows.

(2) In Schedule 4 after diagram 883 there shall be inserted diagrams 884 and 885 set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.

(3) In Schedule 17 in column (2) of item 4, after “883,” there shall be inserted “884, 885,”.

Regulation 2(2)

THE SCHEDULEDIAGRAMS TO BE ADDED TO SCHEDULE 4 TO THE TRAFFIC SIGNS REGULATIONS 2002

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002. Regulation 2(2) and the Schedule insert new diagrams, to indicate quiet lanes in England, into Schedule 4 (miscellaneous informatory signs) to those Regulations. Quiet lanes may be designated by local traffic authorities in England in accordance with the Quiet Lanes and Homes Zones (England) Regulations 2006 (S.I. 2006/2082). Regulation 2(3) makes a consequential amendment to Schedule 17 (illumination of signs).

These Regulations were notified in draft to the European Commission in accordance with Directive 98/34/EC, as amended by Directive 98/48/EC.

A Regulatory Impact Assessment has been produced and a copy placed in the library of both Houses of Parliament.
