A relevant committee may extend the time limit provided for in regulation 13 for a specified period where it considers an extension to be in the public interest.

Where the relevant committee has extended the time limit in accordance with paragraph (1), it must, as soon as reasonably practicable, give a notice of the extension to the parties stating the period of the extension and the reasons for it.
