The Football Spectators (2008 European Championship Control Period) Order 2008

Coming into force
The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 14(6) and 22A(2) of the Football Spectators Act 19891:
The Secretary of State considers that the provision made by article 2 of this Order is expedient in order to secure the effective enforcement of Part II of that Act.
Citation, commencement and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Football Spectators (2008 European Championship Control Period) Order 2008 and shall come into force on 19th May 2008.

In this Order—
“the Tournament” means the external tournament known as the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) EURO 2008 European Championship finals tournament in Austria and Switzerland, and
“Part II” means Part II of the Football Spectators Act 1989.
Control Period

Section 14(6) of the Football Spectators Act 1989 shall have effect in relation to the Tournament as if, for the reference to five days, there were substituted a reference to ten days.

In relation to the Tournament, the period described in paragraph (2) below is a control period for the purposes of Part II.

The period referred to in paragraph (1) above is the period beginning on 28th May 2008, being ten days before the day of the first football match which is included in the Tournament, and ending when the last match included in the Tournament is finished (which, subject to postponement, is due to be on 29th June 2008) or cancelled.
